HAMAN'S “FAMILY  TREE”

haman cookies

Growing up, one of the highlights of my Purim was watching my Uncle Shmuel N. knock down the Haman (and sons) cookies at the end of the day. Every Rosh Chodesh Adar, my aunt Shoshana baked the cookies and hung them from her chandelier, where they dangled until they met their “demise” during al
hanissim.
Whether you use this idea as a centerpiece or hang the cookies from your chandelier, they will definitely create memories that will “hang around” for a while! Bake cookies and decorate them on any level - with chocolate chips, sprinkles, royal icing, fondant, and everything in between!

I love discovering new products. I recently found these plastic domes at Michaels, and of course I had to bring them home. They’re great for filling with small candies, and so this grogger came to be. You can color-coordinate it to match your decor.

Mini Ball Game

Here is an adorable DIY game to make with your children in honor of Adar.

I love the idea of teaching children the step-by-step process of how to build and design a toy.

A water bottle is recycled to catch the candy as it passes through the hole. This is a fun process from start to finish.

I began admiring Ariella Katschers talent when she started her first business, A Pretty Pretzel, in the Five Towns. Ariella has since moved back to Toronto, her hometown, and shortly after her return, she opened an online candy store “thecandycatchers.com ”, featuring stunning custom candy platters beautiful, creative gifts, and, of course, her famous artisanal pretzels! Thank you, Ariella, for giving us a step by step guide on how to make these adorable apple pretzels for Rosh Hashana!

When my children were younger, I spent lots of time on the phone on hold waiting for my call to be taken at my childrens' pediatrician’s office.

The good part about it was that after hearing the recording again and again, the important and useful information really stuck. One of the lines I remember well was: “Do not give in when your child cries and whines to stay up longer. Spending an extra few minutes tucking him in and saying good night, may relax him and help him fall asleep faster.”

I feel that this concept applies to all areas of parenthood.

Many children are anxious at the start of a new school year. When sending your children off to school, spending that extra bit of time to write an encouraging, funny or loving message, or making a special supper or craft can go a long way.
