With all the fruit roll-up wrapped fruit recipes making the rounds lately, we thought it would be fun to revisit this colorful summer treat that originally appeared in Mishpacha Magazine in 2023.

Are You a Purist or a Free Spirit?

What’s your reaction when you see a slice of watermelon wrapped in Fruit by the Foot?

Do you think:

“Why add extra sugar to a perfectly good slice of watermelon?”

Or:

“Nice to add some fruit to the Fruit by the Foot!”

Whichever camp you’re in, there’s no denying that this fruit-and-candy combination is surprisingly delicious.

One of our taste testers said it reminded her of Rita’s Italian Ice—sweet, refreshing, colorful, and perfect for a hot summer day.

How to Make Candy Melon

Step 1: Cut the Watermelon

Cut the watermelon in half. Place one half face down on a cutting board and slice it horizontally and vertically to create watermelon “sticks.”

Step 2: Add the Popsicle Sticks

Cut a small slit in the rind of each watermelon stick and insert a popsicle stick.

Step 3: Wrap with Fruit by the Foot

Wrap Fruit by the Foot around each watermelon stick.

Step 4: Add the Sparkle

Lightly moisten the candy with a little water and dip into colored sugar.

Step 5: Display and Serve

Stick the popsicle sticks through a paper plate for a fun display and easy serving.

A Sweet Summer Memory

Whether you’re a fruit purist or a candy lover, Candy Melon is one of those simple treats that brings a little extra fun to summer. It’s colorful, refreshing, and guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.
