Sukkos Edible Perler Beads

Back in 2015, we shared our Edible Perler Beads. For Chanukah 2017 we created a Chanukah Edible Perler Bead version for Kosher.com, where the idea quickly became one of the site’s early viral craft posts. We loved taking a classic kids’ craft and giving it an edible twist—and we thought it was time for a Sukkos version!

For these Sukkos Edible Perler Beads, we created simple printable lulav and esrog and sukkah templates that make it easy for kids to follow along. We even added brown licorice for the boards of the sukkah, giving the project another fun edible element.

Each printable page has enough for two projects, making this an easy activity to prepare.

A Sweet Sukkos Activity

Part craft, part treat, these Sukkos Edible Perler Beads are a fun activity for Erev Sukkos, Yom Tov or Chol Hamoed. Print the templates, put out the candy and let everyone create their own edible lulav and esrog or sukkah!

Step-by-Step Directions

1. Prepare the Twizzler beads.
Cut the colorful Twizzlers into approximately ¼-inch pieces to create your edible “Perler beads.”

2. Print the templates.
Print your Sukkos Edible Perler Bead templates. Each page includes enough for two projects.

3. Prepare the sukkah boards.
For the sukkah design, cut the brown licorice to fit the sides of the sukkah on the printed template.

4. Add parchment paper.
Place a small piece of parchment paper over the design. This is optional, but it makes it much easier to lift the finished craft off the paper. For younger children, tape the parchment to the template so it stays securely in place.

5. Follow the design.
Using the printed lines as your guide, arrange the Twizzler beads directly over the design. Add the brown licorice pieces when making the sukkah.

6. Cover the finished design.
Once all the candy is in place, carefully lay a second piece of parchment paper on top.

7. Fuse the candy.
An adult should heat the iron and carefully press it over the parchment paper until the Twizzler pieces begin to soften and fuse together. Do not allow the iron to touch the candy directly.

8. Let it cool.
Allow the design to cool completely before gently lifting it from the parchment.
