Dreidel Doodle: A Free Printable Spin & Color Chanukah Game
There’s something so exciting about watching a dreidel spin and waiting to see where it lands. We took that little moment and turned it into a Chanukah game you color as you play!
In Dreidel Doodle, every spin tells you which color and pattern to use next. Section by section, a page of overlapping dreidels fills in with a colorful design nobody could have planned.
It’s an easy activity to pull out at a Chanukah party, a family get-together or in the classroom. Print the two pages, set out a few markers and a dreidel, and you’re ready to play.
What You’ll Need
- Dreidel Doodle coloring sheet (free printable)
- Dreidel Doodle design guide (free printable)
- A dreidel (any one you have at home will work)
- Four colored markers, crayons or colored pencils
- A black fine-tip pen or marker for drawing the patterns

Create Your Color Key
Choose one color for each Hebrew letter on the dreidel: × (Nun), ×’ (Gimmel), ×” (Hey) and ש (Shin).
Use those colors to fill in the four boxes on your design guide. Each letter has its own pattern: stars for Nun, stripes for Gimmel, spirals for Hey and dots for Shin. This is your color key for the whole game.
There really are no rules when it comes to choosing your colors. Go with classic Chanukah blues, bright and bold shades, or a pretty pastel palette. The markers you already have at home will work just fine.
How to Play
- Spin the dreidel.
- Find the letter it lands on in your color key.
- Choose any section of the overlapping dreidels.
- Fill it in with that letter’s color, then draw its pattern on top.
- Keep spinning and coloring until your page is complete.
Playing with a Group
This game works well on your own, but it’s even more fun around a table. Print a coloring sheet and design guide for each person, and set out a selection of markers.
To cut down on waiting, have one person spin for the whole table. Everyone colors the same letter at once, and every page still turns out different because each person chooses their own colors and sections.
At a Chanukah party, place a sheet at each seat before guests arrive. Display the finished pages on a wall, or let everyone take theirs home.
Tip: For younger children, color the key ahead of time so they can jump right into spinning. They can also skip the drawn patterns and use just the colors. If you’re playing with babies or toddlers nearby, keep small dreidels out of reach.
Make It Your Own
One of our favorite things about this activity is that no two finished pages look alike. Even when everyone starts with the same printable, their colors, spins and section choices create a completely different design.
The page doesn’t need to be finished in one sitting, either. Stop whenever you like and come back to it another night of Chanukah, or play again with a new set of colors for an entirely different look.
