Teddy Bear Pilot Party: A Vintage Airplane Dessert Table for an Upsherin or Baby Shower

There’s something about a teddy bear that instantly makes a party feel sweet and cozy! For this setup, we created custom graphics featuring an adorable teddy bear wearing a pilot’s cap and scarf, carrying a little suitcase. Paired with soft plaid greens, navy, and cream, and vintage wooden airplanes flying overhead, the whole setup came together with a charming little story of its own.

A beautiful party doesn’t have to be big or elaborate to feel special. Sometimes, a small, thoughtfully planned and beautifully styled celebration is all you need! For this upsherin, we kept things simple with peklach (little treat bags for the kids), custom cookies, matching napkins, and home-baked muffins. Just a few carefully coordinated details made the entire setup feel cohesive, charming, and memorable.

And while we created this look for an upsherin, the theme would be just as adorable for a third birthday or baby shower. Make it as elaborate or as simple as you’d like. It’s not about how much you do, but how you bring the little details together to create something special!

The Balloon Arch and the Flying Fleet

The backdrop is a balloon arch in six colors: sage, olive and forest green, navy, powder blue and cream. We mixed big balloons with small ones so the curve looks gathered by hand instead of perfectly uniform.

The detail we love most is the three wooden biplanes hanging from the arch on clear string, each at a different height. They look like they’re flying right over the desserts! They’re simple wooden ornaments, but hung over the table they become a little scene of their own.

The Esther O Cupcake Wall

The focal point of the table was our Esther O cupcake wall.

It works great for lining up and displaying just about anything.

There are many different risers available to display your baked goods.

We filled the shelves with home-baked muffins baked and custom cookies by Altoona.

We created two editable designs that we used for custom cookies and custom cocktail napkins.

A basic understanding of Canva is necessary to edit the designs.

Using the same artwork on the cookies, napkins and favor tags is the secret here. When one design shows up in three places, the whole table ties together.

Little Suitcases for the Way Home

How cute are these favors?! They’re green plaid boxes shaped like vintage suitcases, with brown leather-look straps, gold hardware and a tiny handle. Lined up along the front of the table, they look just like luggage waiting at the gate.

Carry the wood and the plaid through every layer, from the backdrop to the baking cups to the favors, and the table stays pulled together.

Make It Your Own

Hosting a smaller crowd? A dozen muffins, a few peklach, a single row of suitcases and a shorter balloon garland still tell the whole story. There really are no rules. Start with the pieces you love and build from there.

Our favorite little detail is the tiny luggage tag on the bear’s suitcase in the artwork. Put the guest of honor’s name on it before you send the file to the baker. It’s the smallest thing on the table, and it’s the one everyone wants a picture of!

Questions We Get Asked

What theme goes well with a teddy bear party?
Vintage airplanes! Dress the bear as a pilot and you get a story, a color palette (greens, navy and cream) and easy decor like hanging planes and suitcase favors.

How do you decorate a vintage airplane party?
Start with a balloon garland in greens, navy and cream, hang wooden biplanes at different heights over the table, and repeat the airplane artwork on the cookies, napkins and favor tags.

How do you make cookies that match a party theme?
Order our Teddy Bear Pilot Party printables and send the files to a baker who prints onto icing sheets, or order them ready-made from Altoona.
