Cinnamon Bun Plate Art – An Easy Plated Dessert Idea

Sometimes the simplest desserts can make the prettiest presentations.

This Cinnamon Bun Plate Art is an easy way to turn a cinnamon bun and a scoop of ice cream into a dessert that feels special—without spending hours preparing an elaborate dessert.

It’s also a great reminder to look through your freezer and see what you already have. A few cinnamon buns, ice cream, leftover cake, cookies, sauces or toppings can easily be mixed and matched to create a beautiful last-minute plated dessert.

Which Cinnamon Bun Recipe Should You Use?

Either of our cinnamon bun recipes will work beautifully for this dessert plate.

Our Irresistible Cinnamon Buns are our go-to when we want an incredibly soft, fluffy cinnamon bun. They’re wonderfully light and gooey and have become one of our most popular recipes.

Our Cinnamon Bun Swirls are slightly firmer and hold their defined swirl particularly well. For the dessert plate pictured here, we used the Cinnamon Bun Swirls recipe.

Either recipe works, so choose whichever you prefer—or whichever you happen to have in your freezer!

How to Make Cinnamon Bun Plate Art

For this presentation, we made the cinnamon buns in a disposable mini muffin pan without cupcake liners. This gives you individual mini buns that are just the right size for a plated dessert.

Once baked, top the cinnamon buns with your choice of icing or toppings.

Arrange the mini cinnamon buns on a white rectangular or square plate and add scoops of ice cream. The contrast of the warm cinnamon buns, cold ice cream and pretty toppings makes a simple dessert look so inviting.

Get Creative With Your Dessert Plate

The real idea behind this plate art isn’t just cinnamon buns and ice cream—it’s to use what you have and think creatively about presentation.

Check your freezer for those little extras that aren’t quite enough to serve on their own. Mini cinnamon buns, cookies, brownies, cake pieces or other baked goods can become the starting point for a beautiful dessert.

Add ice cream, sauces, icing, chocolate, fruit, nuts, crumbs or whatever complements your dessert.

There are no rules. Mix and match different flavors, colors and textures to make each plate your own.

An Easy Last-Minute Dessert That Looks Special

You don’t need a complicated recipe to create a dessert with that extra oomph.

Keep a batch of mini cinnamon buns in your freezer, add ice cream and a few toppings, and you can put together a beautiful individual dessert plate in minutes.

Simple ingredients + creative presentation = a dessert your guests will remember.

The mini cinnamon buns were made in mini disposable muffin pans, without  liners.

Top cinnamon buns with assorted icings and toppings.
