Why We Love This Craft
This craft is simple, inexpensive, and great for groups. Children love watching the CD spin across the paper as it doodles playful patterns, and adults can join in too! The activity works beautifully as both a hands-on craft and an engaging décor idea.
Make It a Full Party Activity
Marker Centerpieces and Paper Tablecloths
Place cups or small vases filled with markers down the center of the table to double as colorful centerpieces. Line the table with paper as your tablecloth.
Printable CD Cover Stickers
For an additional activity, print out CD cover stickers and let everyone color their own “dreidel top” designs before spinning.
Perfect for Parties, Classrooms, and Family Fun
This craft keeps kids engaged, encourages creativity, and adds a lively, artsy atmosphere to any Chanukah celebration. It’s easy to set up, mess-free, and brings joy to everyone around the table.
Supplies You Will Need

CDs (old, unused CDs work perfectly)
wide Crayola Markers
long roll of white paper (butcher paper or easel paper)
optional: small vases or cups to display markers as table centerpieces
optional: printed CD cover stickers for kids to color
Directions
1. Prepare the Workspace
Roll out a long sheet of white paper and tape it to your table. This becomes both your “canvas” and your table covering. You can also use regular copy paper.
2. Make the Dreidel Doodler
Stick a marker through the center hole of the CD so the tip of the marker extends out from the bottom, about 2″. Using your glue gun, secure the marker to the CD. Hold the marker firmly so it stays straight, till the glue dries.
3. Spin and Doodle
Place the marker tip on the paper and give the CD a spin.
Watch as the CD dances and creates fun, colorful spirals and patterns across the page!
4. Add Creative Touches
Let kids switch marker colors, try different spin speeds, or overlap designs to create a collaborative mural.
For an added touch, decorate with rhinestones.
