Hot Off the Press Babka
A Creative Take on Mishloach Manos
When it comes to Mishloach Manos, we’re always looking for ideas that feel thoughtful, festive, and a little unexpected. This Hot Off the Press Babka checks all the boxes—it’s delicious, creative, and makes a statement before it’s even unwrapped.
Sometimes, it’s not about giving more, but about giving smarter.
Why We Love Edible Gifts
Edible gifts are always a win, especially on Purim. They’re practical, appreciated, and don’t end up tucked away in a drawer. A babka feels indulgent and generous, yet familiar—making it the perfect base for a memorable Mishloach Manos.
With just a few simple touches, a classic loaf turns into a gift that feels designed.
Turning a Babka into a Mishloach Manos Moment
The idea behind Hot Off the Press Babka is all in the presentation. Wrapping the loaf in newspaper-style wax paper gives it that playful, “just made” feel, while still looking polished and intentional.
Adding a ribbon and knife instantly elevates it from baked good to gift.
This is one of those ideas that’s easy to adapt—whether you’re making one special delivery or preparing many.
What You’ll Need
-
Loaf pan
-
Parchment paper (optional)
-
Newspaper wax paper
-
Ribbon
-
Metal knife
That’s it. Simple, accessible, and easy to scale.
How We Put It Together
Once the babka is baked and cooled, we remove it from the pan and wrap it in parchment paper. We then layer it with newspaper wax paper for that hot off the press look.
To finish, we tie a ribbon around the loaf and secure a knife right on top. It’s a small detail that makes a big impact—and feels especially fitting for Purim.
Perfect for Purim Gifting
This babka works beautifully on its own or as part of a larger Mishloach Manos. Pair it with a drink, a small jar of spread, or keep it simple and let it shine solo.
Whether you’re gifting neighbors, friends, or family, this is one of those ideas that feels personal without being complicated.
Inspired, Not Identical
As always, we love seeing how people take our ideas and make them their own. Different ribbons, different breads, different budgets—it all works. The goal is inspiration, not perfection.
And if it brings a smile before the first bite, even better.

Directions:
Bake the babka on a piece of parchment paper. (Kirkland is our favorite)
(Note: It is not necessary to use parchment paper for this recipe, we used it here because we didn’t want the babka to touch the newspaper.)
After the babka cools, remove babka from pan and place the piece of newspaper under the parchment paper.
For a finishing touch tie a knife onto the cake with a personalized bow.
