Round Leek Challah
Leek is one of the many Rosh Hashana simanim. Surprise your family this Yom Tov with a delicious treat of sautéed leek hidden in the center of your round challah.
You will need:
- 1-1.5 lbs of your favorite challah dough recipe (This design will be most visible with a firmer recipe, not overly fluffy.)
- sauteed leek-*note-the leek should not be saturated in oil (it will not bake well if there is too much wetness- l sautéed the leek until there was barely any oil left in the pot.
Here is how to make this round challah:
- Flatten a piece of the dough and put 3-4 tablespoons of leek in the center of the dough and then bring the edges to the center to form a ball, put aside.
- Divide the rest of the dough into 12 even pieces and roll them into rods.
- Divide the pieces into 4 groups, 3 rods each.
- Place every 3 ropes next to each other and then weave the 4 groups together as shown in the picture.
- Carefully wrap the woven dough over the leek filled ball.
- Brush with egg and seeds.
