Build‑A‑Bear Party Activity: A Cozy, Creative Celebration
There’s something magical about building your own teddy bear — picking out stuffing, customizing outfits, giving your bear a name, and making it truly yours. If you’re planning a party, whether a birthday bash, a summer camp day, or just a special get‑together, a Build‑A‑Bear DIY activity is such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate.
Most children can never have enough of cozy teddy bears!
You can create your own “in house” Build a Bear Activity that is fun, thrilling, and affordable.Â
This Build a Bear activity is also nice for a parent or therapist looking to spend quality time with a specific child. You can go with a more expensive option like any of these. Another really exciting idea would be to add a recordable heart to record a special message.
There are also so many stuffed animal options on Amazon. We opened the back seam, and unstuffed the bears. To prepare the activity for a party, display the bear “skins”, ribbons, bags of stuffing, and hearts. The children then choose their materials, and the building begins!
You can add the activity by decorating a shirt for the bear. You can use fabric markers and cute iron on patches.
Complete the activity by filling out and coloring birth certificates for the bears.

Instructions:
Preparation for Activity:
- Using a seam ripper, carefully undo the stitching in the back of the bear. You can poke a hole by the seam if the stitching is too tight.
- Remove stuffing (it’s a good idea to put the stuffing of each bear in a separate Ziploc bag).
Â
Activity:
- Â Stuff bears. Make sure the stuffing reaches the arms and legs.
- Place a heart in the bear (optional).
- Sew the bear back up. When working with a large group, it is a good idea to have an extra adult to help with the sewing or you can prepare  a small activity to do while the children wait for their turn. You can also use a glue gun, but you’ll need to handle it carefully since you’ll be working with very small surfaces.
- Using the ribbon, tie a bow or necktie around the neck.
- Use iron on patches and or fabric markers to decorate the teddy bear clothing.
- Fill out the birth certificate.
