The Ultimate Cake Board Idea
Dessert tables and sweet spreads are usually filled with elaborate, expensive cakes piled high with frosting, fillings, and toppings. But at almost every kiddush or gathering, there’s always someone quietly searching for a simple piece of cake to make mezonos on.
That’s exactly why we love this Cake Board idea.
It’s simple, versatile, beautiful to display, and completely customizable. Best of all, there are no rules. Mix and match flavors, toppings, crumbs, drizzles, and fillings to create a cake board that perfectly suits your taste and style.
Whether you serve it at a kiddush, brunch, dessert table, or as counter cakes for entertaining, this idea always feels special while still being effortless.
One Cake, Endless Possibilities
This Cake Board is about being creative and having fun. You can use any cake flavor and any toppings you love.
We created ours using our Simple White Cake recipe, divided the recipe among a few pans and then customized each cake with different toppings, crumbs, and fillings. The result is a beautiful assortment that looks impressive while requiring very little extra work.
This cake board can be made for any size loaf cakes.
We especially love this concept displayed as counter cakes on a large rectangular wood or acrylic cake stand.
Choosing the Right Pans
Although any narrow loaf pan works beautifully for this project, we used extra narrow disposable pans that we purchased in Israel.
There are many great size disposable loaf pans available on Amazon.
You will need:
- wooden board
- chalkboard signs (optional)
- your favorite cake such as our Simple Vanilla Cake
- crumbs and babka filling-We used the filling and crumbs from our Perfect Chocolate Babka recipe.
- icing (You can add any flavoring to our basic white icing recipe.)
- toppings
Flavor Ideas We Used
Lotus Cake
Before baking, sprinkle crushed Lotus biscuits over the cake batter.
Once cooled, drizzle with melted Lotus butter for the perfect finishing touch.
Blueberry Crumb Cake
Fold fresh blueberries into the batter and top with crumbs before baking.
After cooling, drizzle with a simple vanilla icing.
Coffee Cake
As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, gently press chocolate-covered coffee beans into the top.
Finish with a coffee glaze once cooled.
Babka Cake
Top the batter with babka filling and crumbs before baking.
After cooling, drizzle generously with melted chocolate.
There Are No Rules
That’s the beauty of this Cake Board idea.
You can:
- Use different cake flavors
- Mix sweet and crunchy toppings
- Add fruits, crumbs, glazes, or fillings
- Keep some cakes plain and others more elaborate
- Match the flavors to the season or occasion
Every board can look completely different, and that’s what makes it so fun.
Helpful Tip
Before purchasing your pans or serving board, make sure the sizes work well together so everything fits nicely when arranged.
