DIY Snack Mix Bar for Parties & Simchas

Create Your Own Sweet & Savory Mix Bar

A mix bar is a fun, interactive addition to any event. With an assortment of popcorn, nuts, sweet treats, and crunchy snacks, guests can fill a cup with their favorites and create their own custom mix. It’s simple to set up, works for both kids and adults, and adds another element of fun to a sweet table.

One Simcha, Three Coordinating Food Stations

Our Mix Bar was one of several coordinated food stations we set up for an article in Family First Magazine Simcha Issue. Rather than displaying everything together on one large sweet table, we created separate areas for different types of treats, including this mix bar, a Tea Bar, and a Cake & Cookies Dessert Table. Keeping each category in its own defined space made the entire setup feel organized and polished while still looking like one cohesive display.

Creating  Coordinated Sweet Tables

One of the easiest ways to make separate food stations feel like part of the same setup is to repeat a few key elements throughout.

We used the same tweed tablecloths from Stitch N Sew for each display.

BoxSweetz then took the actual tweed design and recreated it on our coordinating napkins, labels, and cup sleeves. Those small personalized details carried the pattern throughout the different stations and helped tie everything together beautifully.

How We Set Up the Mix Bar

Creating different heights is one of our favorite tricks for making a food display look more professional. For each station, we used two 18″ x 48″ tables, placing one behind the other.

We raised the back table using four bed risers. That simple extra level gives the display dimension, makes everything easier to see, and allows you to fit plenty onto a relatively small footprint.

Once the tables were covered with the tweed tablecloth, we arranged the mix-bar containers across both levels so every option was easy to reach.

What to Put in a Mix Bar

The fun of a mix bar is the variety. Guests can choose a little of everything or create a combination entirely their own.

For our Mix Bar, we included:

  • Peanut Butter Caramel Smudds
  • Cinnamon Swirl Smudds
  • S’mores Smudds
  • Pistachios
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Salty popcorn
  • BBQ popcorn
  • Cookies & Cream popcorn
  • Halva pecans
  • Bar mix

You can easily adjust the selection to suit your event. A combination of sweet, salty, crunchy, and chewy gives guests plenty of interesting choices.

Popcorn & Nuts From The Nuttery

The nuts and popcorn for our Mix Bar came from The Nuttery, and as always, they did not disappoint. Their products are incredibly fresh, and they’re constantly introducing new and interesting flavors and products.

Using several varieties of popcorn and nuts is an easy way to give a mix bar lots of choices without making the setup complicated. Guests simply scoop their favorites into a cup and move on to the next selection.

Have You Tried Smudds?

If you haven’t tried Smudds yet, we’ll whet your appetite by telling you a little about them!

Smudds reimagines classic muddy buddies with a chewy caramel, melt-in-your-mouth texture. They’re an irresistible upgrade to the nostalgic snack and are just as popular with adults as they are with kids.

For our Mix Bar, we used their original Caramel Peanut Butter Smudds, currently available at many local supermarkets, along with Cinnamon Swirl and S’mores, which are also coming soon to many local supermarkets.

Besides being perfect for a mix bar, Smudds make a great party favor or grab-and-go snack.

Make It Easy for Guests to Mix Their Favorites

Place each snack in its own clear container so guests can immediately see all their choices. Add a scoop to each container and provide cups nearby for creating individual mixes.

Labels are especially helpful when you have lots of similar-looking treats. Our coordinating BoxSweetz labels added a personalized element while keeping the station organized and easy to navigate.

More Creative Food Stations

Food stations are one of our favorite ways to add that extra oomph to a party or simcha. Whether you’re creating a dessert bar, snack station, tea station, or something completely different, giving each category its own designated space can make even a large selection feel organized and polished.
