Marshmallow Paint: A Sweet & Creative Cookie Activity
Looking for a fun, hands-on activity that doubles as a delicious treat? Marshmallow paint is a simple and exciting way to turn cookie decorating into an interactive experience everyone will love.
What Is Marshmallow Paint?
Marshmallow paint is exactly what it sounds like—melted marshmallows transformed into a soft, spreadable “paint.” It has a smooth texture that’s perfect for decorating sugar cookies. Best of all, it’s completely edible and kid-friendly.
How It Works
All you need are marshmallows, a little heat, and optional food coloring. Once melted, the marshmallows become a sticky, glossy mixture that can be brushed, drizzled, or spread onto your treats.
You can:
- Divide the mixture into small bowls
- Add food coloring for different shades
- Use brushes, spoons, or sticks to decorate
It’s simple, mess-friendly, and perfect for little hands.
A Fun Activity for Any Celebration
We originally created this edible craft for Lieber’s, where we used it to decorate Chanukah cookies—but it’s so versatile and fun, it works beautifully any time of year.
Marshmallow paint is a great addition to parties, playdates, or any special events. Set up a decorating station with cookies and colorful “paints,” and let kids (and adults!) get creative.
It’s not just about the final result—it’s about the experience of creating something sweet together.
Sweet Memories in the Making
This activity brings together creativity, fun, and a tasty reward at the end. Whether you’re hosting a party or just looking for a new kitchen activity, marshmallow paint is an easy way to make moments more memorable—and a lot more delicious.
You will need:

- 1 bag Marshmallows
- ½ cup water
- 6 Tbsp Corn Syrup
- Food Color Gel
Directions:
- Place a full bag of marshmallows in a microwave safe dish and microwave marshmallows for one minute.
- Mix marshmallows, add water and microwave an additional 30 seconds.
- Mix again and place in microwave an additional 30 seconds.
- Use a hand blender to make the mixture smooth.
- Add the corn syrup and mix again.
- Divide the paint into small containers and add the food coloring.
You can prepare the marshmallow paint 1–2 days in advance. If it firms up, simply microwave it in short 5-second intervals until it softens back to a smooth, spreadable consistency.
