Rice Paper Flowers

In honor of Shavuos, learn how to turn rice paper spring roll wrapper into a beautiful flower.

You can use your rice paper flowers to decorate a bowl of soup, meat platter and cakes.

More than the beauty of these rice flowers is the excitement of making them and watching the transformation of a hard piece of rice paper blossom into a gorgeous flower. A must try!!!

You will need:

    Directions:

      1. For each flower, cut a three inch and a four inch circle out of the rice paper. The rice paper is brittle so work slowly. It is ok if it’s a little jagged and not so perfect.
      2. Carefully make the circle it into a five or six petal flower by cutting small triangle like pieces out. You can also just make slits around the circles instead.
      3. Heat oil in a frying pot. Approximately three-four inches deep.
      4. While the oil is heating up, stick the two flowers together with a bit of rice, smaller one on top. Add a little more rice to the center of the small flower.
      5. Use a small piece of the rice paper to test if the oil is hot enough.It should puff up.
      6. Carefully lower the flower into the oil using a slotted spoon.The flower will immediately puff up.
      7. Carefully remove from the pot and place on a cooling rack.                             

      *Flowers can be made a few days in advance.
