Years ago, we made a fruit topiary centerpiece for Tu B’shvat. Though it looked beautiful, it was not practical at all. The moment someone took a fruit off, the whole structure began to unravel. We were determined to make something more practical. Originally, we intended to use curly branches from our local florist, but while I was planning this, we spotted an all-year-round bush in the yard with beautiful leaves on it, which is what I used. We used some thin wire to hang kumquats on the branches and a striking “tree” centerpiece was created and still looked great, after the fruits were “picked”.
Supplies:
- branches (with or without leaves)
- kumquats
- thin wire
- glass vase
- twine
- birch wrap
You can also purchase a bark wrapped vase ready made.
Directions:
- Line the vase with the birch wrap. You will need to tape a few pieces together to reach the height of the vase.
- Tie birch wrap around the vase with twine. Alternately, you can put the bark in the vase.
- Place branches in the vase.
- Stick the wire into one end of each kumquat and hang them to the branches with the wire.
